This week has seen MetaPack, one of the world’s leading e commerce delivery technology companies announce that following two years of significant investment into its core systems, it has increased its revenues by over £5.5 million year-on-year. Representing 20% growth. This has been further supported by a distinct improvement in operating performance with EBITDA income shifting MetaPack from a £5.5 million loss in 2016 to profit for this financial year.
MetaPack was founded in 1999 and from this date has been helping ecommerce companies across the world offer excellent and efficient delivery services. Their SaaS solution has a catalogue of over 400 carriers and 4000 services from personal delivery services through to global order tracking and simplified return procedures that are available all across the globe. More than half a billion packages are sent every year thanks to MetaPack and their services and solutions are used by some of the world’s biggest ecommerce and other retailers including Halfords, Sports Direct, ASOS, John Lewis, Marks and Spencer, House of Fraser and Wiggle.
The company has also managed to grow its global business reach over the past year too, adding 40 new carriers to its delivery management platform as well as signing up 27 new top 100 ecommerce brands. It expects to add another 40 to 50 over the next 12 months.
Steve Rowley, Executive Chairman at MetaPack, said: “We raised £6 million two years ago and this has further consolidated our core UK operation, supported acquisitions and growth in key international markets, and enabled us to ensure our scalable, reliable delivery platform is robust in the face of peak demands. Because we don’t capitalize in technology, we carried all the costs for the platform investment in the first year, which is why our EBITDA income in 2016 was so low.
“Growth in the team, however, means we have reached over 350 employees and the vast majority of them are developing and maintaining the platform. This intense concentration provides an enterprise level, highly available ecommerce delivery solution that not only assists our customers with their global growth, and gives us a distinct differentiation from our competition, but also provides the framework across which 500 million parcels will be delivered this year.”
The focus for the year ahead now for MetaPack will be facilitating improved, more streamlined carrier integration for retailers and brands who are using their managed delivery platform. Particular attention is also being made to bringing on-board overseas carriers that will allow UL retailers maximize the potential of international ecommerce.

We understand that the speed with which retailers can access multiple carriers in multiple locations has a direct influence on the success of their ecommerce business,” said Rowley.
